Hannes Wessels
General Manager of Southern and Francophone Africa at BinanceHannes Wessels is the General Manager of Southern and Francophone Africa for Binance, the world’s foremost blockchain ecosystem and cryptocurrency infrastructure provider, currently spearheading business operations in these regions.
Prior to joining Binance, he held the position of Head of Global Banking, South Africa, at HSBC, where he led HSBC’s corporate and investment banking business within the country. This encompassed the payments and cash management business, which received Euromoney’s prestigious award for leading payments business in South Africa in 2021.
Hannes was a member of the bank’s executive committee in South Africa and also chaired the bank’s Employment Equity Committee in the country. During his tenure, HSBC’s multinational business achieved a top-three position in the country. Hannes played a pivotal role in obtaining and maintaining the bank’s Tier 1 BEE rating, with HSBC being the first bank to attain this esteemed status in South Africa.
